Recreating Safely During Fire Season

Over the recent years , wildfires have grown in intensity and frequency. Through various resources and basic tools of fire awareness and prevention this course will help you gain knowledge and confidence while recreating in the outdoors. Discover best practices for safely recreating in fire prone areas.

Michael Garcia began his connection to nature exploring the Los Angeles River. While growing up in the city of Maywood, a mentor by the name of Jaime Rodelo requested that Michael “skip” school so he could explore the natural watershed of the San Gabriel River. Michael has continued the inspiration and foundation that Jaime created that day in the Angeles National Forest. Since 2002 Michael has been involved in outdoor education. He has instructed, trained, and inspired future stewards with various outdoor organizations Whether practicing Leave No Trace or instructing Wilderness First Aid, Michael has kept his roots deep within the Los Angeles River.

Durante los últimos años, los incendios forestales han aumentado en intensidad y frecuencia. A través de diversos recursos y herramientas básicas para la prevención y concientización respecto de los incendios, este curso le ayudará a obtener conocimiento y seguridad durante la recreación al aire libre. La conexión de Michael Garcia con la naturaleza comenzó explorando el río Los Ángeles. Durante su infancia en la ciudad de Maywood, un mentor llamado Jaime Rodelo solicitó que Michael "faltara” a la escuela para explorar la cuenca del río San Gabriel. Michael ha continuado la inspiración y los cimientos que Jaime creó ese día en el Bosque Nacional Ángeles. Desde 2002 Michael se ha dedicado a la educación para la vida al aire libre. Ha formado, entrenado e inspirado a futuros custodios con varias organizaciones dedicadas a la vida al aire libre. Ya sea practicando los principios de Leave No Trace o como instructor de primeros auxilios en áreas silvestres, Michael se ha mantenido profundamente arraigado al río Los Ángeles.
