About the Event
Intentional Work: Transforming Organizational Practices & Culture
Topics: Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Overview: Power is exercised by individuals and institutions. This exercise happens in conversations, organizational planning, and professional exchanges at conferences. Relations of power are shaped through an organization’s culture, become normalized and reproduced, and bleed through to interpretive undertakings and projects: museum exhibits, public programs, partner meetings, and interpretive moments. How does one understand their role in the relation of power? Perhaps by examining one's role, organizational structure, and everyday internal interpersonal exchanges. This presentation will introduce the topic, take a look at existing organizational structures and workplace culture(s), and delve into audience’s current organizational realities. Group discussions will also explore the following terms as they relate to relations of power: inclusion, privilege, systems of oppression, identity, culture, and microaggressions. This training examines how organizational practices shape interpretive undertakings. By examining such practices, we transform our interpretive roles and work.Â
